CEISEE History

The CEISEE conference has been successful and has garnered widespread attention and participation from education scholars, industry experts, and relevant government officials in China and Europe. To date, more than 1,000 scholars from 23 countries, including China, Ireland, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Russia, the United States, South Korea, Tanzania, Thailand, Malaysia, Romania, Pakistan, Bulgaria, and Macedonia, have participated in the conference. The conference is held alternately in China and Europe every year, with locations including Harbin, Dublin, Guangzhou, Bordeaux, Xi'an, Northampton, Shanghai, Pavia, Chengdu, Cottbus, Shenyang, Athens, and Shenzhen. Its influence has been growing internationally over the years.

The 1st session, Harbin

In January 2005, the first China-Europe International Symposium on Software Industry Oriented Education (CEIS-SIOE'2005) was successfully held in Harbin, China, initiated by the members of the EMERSION project. The CEIS-SIOE conference aimed to enhance the exchange between China and Europe and develop and improve the software industry-oriented education models in both regions.

the 2nd session,

The second CEIS-SIOE conference attracted more participation from university and IT industry professionals, with experts from Ireland, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, and South Korea in attendance. The conference had over 100 attendees, with more than 80 individuals from 39 universities and companies serving as official representatives. The event featured seven captivating keynote speeches, 14 parallel sessions, and two panel discussions. After rigorous evaluation by experts in the education and software industry from China and Europe, a total of 40 excellent papers were selected for inclusion in the conference proceedings and presented at the conference.

Technical University of Dublin

The third China-Europe International Symposium on Software Industry Oriented Education (CEISIE) was held in February 2007 at Technological University Dublin in Ireland. The conference, formerly known as CEIS-SIOE, aimed to bring together educators and industry professionals with a focus on software education. During the group discussion sessions, participants engaged in discussions on key issues related to industrial software talent education. The conference attracted over 80 participants from countries such as Ireland, China, the United Kingdom, France, the United States, Russia, and Poland, representing the education and IT industry sectors. The event featured two engaging keynote speeches, ten parallel sessions, and a panel discussion on the collaboration between industry and academia in software industry talent education. A total of 29 papers were presented and included in the conference proceedings.

the 4th, GuangZhou
Sun Yat-sen Universityn

The fourth China-Europe International Symposium on Software Industry Oriented Education (CEISIE) took place in January 2008 in Guangzhou, China, organized by Zhongshan University. The conference brought together nearly 70 experts and scholars from China, Ireland, the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Tanzania, and other countries.The event featured four engaging keynote speeches, nine parallel sessions, one industry panel, and a panel discussion on establishing an ecosystem for IT talent development through collaboration among universities, governments, and industries. A total of 37 papers were presented and included in the conference proceedings, with seven high-quality papers presented by teachers from the School of Software at Harbin Institute of Technology. The successful organization of the symposium further strengthened the exchange and cooperation between China and Europe in the development and improvement of industrial software talent education.

5th, Bordeaux
the University of Bordeaux

The fifth China-Europe International Symposium on Software Industry Oriented Education (CEISIE) was held in May 2009 in Bordeaux, France, organized by the University of Bordeaux. Over 50 experts and scholars from 10 countries, including China, Ireland, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, and Finland, attended the conference. The event included two keynote speeches, twelve parallel sessions, and a workshop on talent development in enterprise information technology application and interoperability. A total of two keynote speeches and 34 papers were presented. Our university's teachers presented seven papers, making it the university with the highest number of paper presentations at the conference. Their presentations received wide acclaim from the attendees and had a significant impact. The theme of the conference focused on cultivating adaptive talent in enterprise interoperability in the IT application field. The conference also received special coverage and interviews from French television.

6th, Xi'an
Northwestern Polytechnical University

The sixth China-Europe International Symposium on Software Industry Oriented Education (CEISIE) was held in May 2010 in Xi'an, China, organized by Northwestern Polytechnical University. Over 80 experts and scholars from six countries, including China, Ireland, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy, attended the conference. The event featured five keynote speeches, eight parallel sessions, and a workshop on international cooperation in IT education. A total of five keynote speeches and 33 papers were presented. Our university's teachers presented four papers, which received wide acclaim from the attendees. The conference provided a platform for in-depth discussions on various topics related to software industry-oriented education, fostering international collaboration, and promoting the exchange of ideas and experiences among experts and scholars from different countries.

7th, the United Kingdom
University of Northampton

The seventh China-Europe International Symposium on Software Industry Oriented Education (CEISIE) was held in May 2011 at the University of Northampton in the United Kingdom. The theme of the conference was "Green Computing in Higher Education." Over 50 experts and scholars from China, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Tanzania, and other countries attended the conference. The conference proceedings included 29 papers from scholars in China and Europe. Our university's teachers presented six papers, with one paper by Professor Sun Zhigang titled "Improving Course Design through the Application of Online Evaluation and Anti-Plagiarism Systems" receiving wide acclaim from the attendees. This paper was recognized as the best paper of the conference. The conference provided a platform for discussions and exchange of ideas on the topic of green computing in higher education, addressing sustainability and environmental considerations in the field of software industry-oriented education.

8th, Shanghai
Shanghai Jiao Tong University

The eighth China-Europe International Symposium on Software Industry Oriented Education (CEISEE) was held in May 2012 in Shanghai, China. The conference was organized by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and marked the change of the conference's abbreviation from CEISIE to CEISEE. The theme of the conference was "Software Engineering Education at Various Levels." Over 50 experts and scholars from China, Ireland, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy attended the conference. Sean O'Regan, the Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of Ireland in China, was present at the conference and delivered a keynote speech titled "Keys to Growth." The conference featured three keynote speeches, four parallel sessions, and a themed workshop on "Collaborative Innovation in Software Engineering Education in the Context of Economic Globalization." A total of 18 high-quality papers were presented and included in the conference proceedings published in the "Computer Education" journal. Professor Xu Xiaofei led a delegation to attend the symposium and delivered the opening speech as the conference chairperson. The event provided a valuable platform for experts and scholars to exchange ideas and explore cooperative innovations in software engineering education in an increasingly globalized economic environment.

Italy

The ninth China-Europe International Symposium on Software Industry Oriented Education (CEISEE) was held in May 2013 in Milan, Italy. The conference was organized by the University of Pavia. Professor Xu Xiaofei served as the chair of the program committee and led a delegation to participate in the conference. The event provided a platform for experts and scholars from China and Europe to exchange ideas and discuss advancements in software industry-oriented education. With Professor Xu Xiaofei's leadership, the conference's program committee worked to ensure the quality and relevance of the presentations and discussions. The symposium in Milan further strengthened the collaboration and cooperation between China and Europe in the field of software industry-oriented education. It facilitated the sharing of experiences, research findings, and innovative approaches in software engineering education among participants from various institutions and countries.

10th, Chengdu
University of Electronic Science and Technology of China

The tenth China-Europe International Symposium on Software Industry Oriented Education (CEISEE) was held in April 2014 in Chengdu, China. The conference was organized by the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. The theme of the conference was "Software Engineering Education in the Era of Big Data." Experts, scholars, and industry representatives from Europe and China gathered to deliver keynote speeches and engage in discussions on topics such as educational models and practices in software engineering, curriculum reforms in software engineering education, and internationalization of education. Professor Xu Xiaofei led a delegation to participate in the symposium and delivered a keynote speech as the conference chairperson. The conference provided a valuable platform for exchanging ideas and experiences related to software engineering education in the context of the big data era. It facilitated collaboration and cooperation between China and Europe, fostering advancements in software engineering education and addressing the challenges and opportunities brought about by the rapidly evolving field of big data.

Zwickau University of Applied Sciences

The eleventh China-Europe International Symposium on Software Engineering Education (CEISEE) was held in April 2015 in Zwickau, Germany, organized by the Zwickau University of Applied Sciences. The conference featured over 20 keynote speeches, paper presentations, and thematic workshops. The conference covered a wide range of topics related to software engineering education, including the engineering education systems in China and Europe, software engineering education and curriculum systems, teaching methods and technologies in software engineering, massive open online courses (MOOCs), software talent development and career advancement, agile software engineering methods and practices in teaching, university-industry collaboration and joint talent development, and quality assurance in software engineering education. Over 40 experts and scholars from China, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and other countries attended the conference. Professor Xu Xiaofei served as the chair of the program committee and delivered a keynote speech titled "Innovative Education of Computer Science and Software Engineering in China through MOOCs." Professor Zhan Dechen, Dr. Zhang Yu, Associate Professor Chen Yin, Associate Professor Sun Chengjie, and Professor Chu Tianhui from the Weihai campus of Harbin Institute of Technology also attended the conference. Harbin Institute of Technology presented four papers at the conference, which garnered attention and interest from the attendees.

12th, Shenyang
Northeastern University

The twelfth China-Europe International Symposium on Software Engineering Education (CEISEE) was held in May 2016 in Shenyang, China, organized by Northeastern University. The conference's theme was "Internet Plus Software Engineering Education" and covered topics such as engineering education systems in China and Europe, software engineering education and curriculum systems, teaching methods and technologies in software engineering, massive online education (MOOCs) and small private online courses (SPOCs), software talent development and career advancement, interdisciplinary education in software engineering and big data, innovation in Internet Plus software talent development, and more. Over 40 experts and scholars from China, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, and other countries attended the conference. Professor Xu Xiaofei, as the conference chair, delivered the opening speech and chaired a thematic workshop on "Innovation in Internet Plus Software Engineering." Six experts from China and Europe shared their insights on nurturing software engineering talents with innovative and exploratory thinking in the Internet Plus era. They discussed the integration of networking and software engineering education and explored new models for talent development. During the invited keynote session, Mr. Guo Haoran, President of the China branch of Datalex, a joint training program between our university and Technological University Dublin in Ireland, delivered a keynote speech, showcasing the concrete achievements of our international cooperation and joint training programs. The conference provided a platform for sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas, and promoting collaboration between China and Europe in the field of software engineering education, particularly in the context of the Internet Plus era.

The thirteenth China-Europe International Symposium on Software Engineering Education (CEISEE) was held in May 2017 in Athens, Greece, organized by the University of Derby. Professor Xu Xiaofei served as the chair of the program committee. Professors Liu Hongwei and Chu Tianhui attended the conference. The event provided a platform for experts, scholars, and industry professionals from China and Europe to exchange ideas and discuss advancements in software engineering education. With Professor Xu Xiaofei's leadership, the program committee ensured the quality and relevance of the conference presentations and discussions. The participation of Professor Liu Hongwei and Professor Chu Tianhui further enriched the conference with their expertise and insights in the field of software engineering education. The thirteenth CEISEE conference in Athens facilitated collaboration and cooperation between China and Europe in the development and improvement of software engineering education. The fourteenth China-Europe International Symposium on Software Engineering Education (CEISEE) was held in May 2018 in Shenzhen, China, organized by Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen). The conference focused on the theme of "Software Engineering Education in the Context of Emerging Engineering Disciplines." Over 50 experts and scholars from China and Europe attended the conference and engaged in in-depth and lively discussions on the topic of "Software Engineering Education in the Era of Artificial Intelligence." Professor Xu Xiaofei, as the conference chair, participated in the event and delivered a keynote speech titled "Practices and Experiences of the '1+M+N' Cross-Institution Collaborative Teaching Model based on MOOC/SPOC." Mr. Zhen Liang, the Executive Vice President of the Shenzhen campus, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. UNINOVA - Institute for the Development of New Technologies

The fifteenth China-Europe International Symposium on Software Engineering Education (CEISEE) was held in May 2019 in Lisbon, Portugal, organized by UNINOVA - Institute for the Development of New Technologies. The conference featured 17 sessions, including keynote speeches, paper presentations, and thematic workshops. The conference focused on the "Research, Technology, and Application Innovation" in the field of software engineering. Topics covered included software engineering education models and practices in China and Europe, curriculum systems and teaching practices in software engineering education under the context of Industry 4.0, agile software engineering methods and practices in teaching, massive online education (MOOC), software talent development and career planning, and collaborative education models between universities and enterprises. Over 50 experts and scholars from China, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and other countries attended the conference. Professor Xu Xiaofei from our university served as the chair of the program committee and delivered a keynote speech on "Agile Flexible Education in the Context of Emerging Engineering Disciplines." Zhang Yu, Huang Hujie, Zhang Ce, and Han Xixian presented five papers, which attracted attention and generated lively discussions among the attendees. During the conference, the delegation from Harbin Institute of Technology also had the opportunity to visit the laboratories of UNINOVA and learn about their research work in areas such as environmental pollution monitoring using marine big data, embedded health assistance systems, and the Internet of Things. The conference provided a valuable platform for academic exchange, knowledge sharing, and collaboration between China and Europe in the field of software engineering education, fostering innovative approaches and promoting advancements in the discipline.

The 16th China-Europe International Symposium on Software Engineering Education (CEISEE) took place on December 5, 2020, at Beijing Jiaotong University. The conference adopted a hybrid format, combining online and offline participation. Over 100 representatives from European countries such as Germany, France, Croatia, as well as universities, research institutes, and companies from across China, attended the conference. Professor Xu Xiaofei, Vice President of Harbin Institute of Technology and President of the Weihai Campus, Professor Wang Zhongjie, Vice Dean of the School of Software, Zhang Ce and Ding Jianrui from the School of Software, Guo Weihua from the International Cooperation Department of the Weihai Campus, and Jiang Siyuan from the School of Software were among the attendees. Beijing Jiaotong University hosted the conference, with support and co-organization from Harbin Institute of Technology, Technological University Dublin in Ireland, the National Exemplary Software School Alliance, the China Software Industry Association, the China University Computer Education MOOC Alliance, the Irish Education Promotion Agency, the Wang Kuancheng Education Foundation, and the Computer Education. The conference included 28 papers and provided a platform for vigorous discussions and exchanges on topics such as software engineering education in the context of emerging engineering disciplines, online education after the pandemic, collaborative education through industry-academia cooperation, the development of exemplary software schools with distinctive characteristics, software engineering education practices, and international education and cooperation. The 16th CEISEE conference facilitated valuable discussions and exchanges, promoting advancements and collaborations in the field of software engineering education in the new era.

The 17th China-Europe International Symposium on Software Engineering Education (CEISEE) was held from August 26th to 28th, 2021 at Harbin Institute of Technology. The conference adopted a hybrid format, combining both online and offline participation. Over 100 representatives from European countries including Ireland, France, Croatia, as well as universities, research institutes, and companies from across China attended the conference. In addition, the conference was live-streamed, with over 73,000 viewers watching the conference through online platforms. Harbin Institute of Technology hosted the conference, with support and co-organization from Beijing Jiaotong University, Technological University Dublin in Ireland, the Software Engineering Education Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education of China, the National Exemplary Software School Alliance, the China Software Industry Association, the China University Computer Education MOOC Alliance, and Computer Education. The theme of the conference was "Software Engineering Education in the Post-Pandemic Internet Era: New Changes, New Technologies, New Economy, and New Characteristics." The conference provided a platform for in-depth discussions and exchanges on the impact of the post-pandemic era on software engineering education, exploring new changes, technologies, economic aspects, and characteristics that have emerged in the field. The 17th CEISEE conference facilitated fruitful discussions, knowledge sharing, and collaborations, contributing to the advancement and development of software engineering education in the context of the evolving internet era.

Algebra University College

The 18th China-Europe International Symposium on Software Engineering Education (CEISEE) was held online from November 25th to 26th, 2022. Over 100 representatives from universities in European countries such as Croatia, Ireland, Italy, Germany, as well as more than 30 universities and research institutes from China, attended the conference. The conference was organized by Algebra University College in Croatia, with co-organization from Harbin Institute of Technology and Beijing Jiaotong University. It received support from Technological University Dublin in Ireland, the Software Engineering Education Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education of China, the National Exemplary Software School Alliance, the China Software Industry Association, the China University Computer Education MOOC Alliance, and Computer Education. The theme of the conference was "How the Metaverse is Shaping the Future of Education." Distinguished scholars and experts, including Professor Xu Xiaofei from Harbin Institute of Technology, Professor Zhou Aoying, Vice President of East China Normal University, Professor Claudio Ardagna from the University of Milan in Italy, and Professor Mislav Balkovic from Algebra University College in Croatia, were invited to deliver insightful keynote speeches. The conference provided a platform for attendees to explore the impact of the metaverse on the future of education. Discussions and presentations centered around the innovative use of metaverse technologies, virtual reality, and augmented reality in educational contexts.
